About Library of UWED

The library of UWED was founded in 1992.
The total reserves of the library constitute nearly 214 671 books.

Initially, the library’s reserves covered Uzbek language and Russian language books.

Later the reserves of the library were replenished by foreign language books and a special reserve of foreign language literature was formed.

The formation of this fund was pioneered by German language literature and the English language books.

Then this was followed by the formation of special reserves of Economics, Economic theories, Management, Marketing, Management Organization, Accounting, Statistics, Law and Political Studies.

Along with the formation of the library reserves, the fund of audio-video cassettes, CD-ROMs and the foreign language media funds were formed.

The fund of books on the linguistics was increased as well, including different textbooks, methodological instructions for teachers and students, dictionaries and audio video cassettes.

The library purchased literature on Law, covering all spheres of Law: International, Private, Family, Conflict, Civil, Computer, Trade and Britannica (33 volumes) in English language.

The library is rich in foreign language literature on economics, including annual reports on world development which is of great interest for those who study international economy.

The French language literature contributes an important share of the library reserves, covering books on economics, law, political sciences, textbooks, methodological instructions and dictionaries.

In recent years the library reserves was enlarged by books in Japanese, Korean, Italian and Spanish languages.

Thus, currently foreign language reserves amount over 30 000 books.

Uzbek language literature is another significant part of library reserves.

It is presented by the representatives of famous classical, philosophical heritage as A.

Navoiy, Al-Farabi, Al-Buxari, Beruni, Abu Ali Ibn Sino, Al-Fargoni and others.

For those who study historical heritage of Uzbekistan the library provides a number of books on history, culture, architecture, art and geography of Central Asia.

Valuable manuscripts and rare edditions of books dating back from the19th and the beginning of the 20th century are widely presented for scholars and researches.

So during the years of the library’s formation, the accumulated reserves meet the requirements of modern academic process and present a great scientific importance.

Annually the library is enriched by 5-7 thousand copies of books and media of Uzbekistan and oversea countries.

At present there are following departments in the library: loan department, scientific department, department of fiction and foreign literature, 3 silent reading areas, electronic resource centre with Internet access to both students and teachers.

The Resource Centre includes 45 computers providing different services.

Since 1994 the library has started the electronic registration of books on alphabetical order and formed electronic basis of lectures, academic syllabuses and textbooks.

The creation of electronic library makes it available to use the texts of more than 8000 articles from EBSCO PUBLISHING, OXFORD University Press web-sites and other sources.

The equipment of the library with modern digital technology is in on going process with the help of Korean Fund KOICA.

The plan is envisaged a gradual transfer to automatic service of users and creating the most powerful information resource centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The library staff takes an active part in national and international scientific conferences, seminars and symposiums.

Besides the library arranges different cultural events and presentation of new books.
